I did something similar. I purchased new 35mm and a 50mm lenses separately. Then, a couple of weeks later, I noticed the 35mm and 85mm kit on sale for a substantial savings. So I took the 35mm lens back to the store, where they refunded the original purchase price, which I in turn applied toward the purchase of the 35mm and 85mm kit.
