How far will it zoom? null

It's about a 3x zoom. The lens kits on starter dslr's are pretty basic.

Basically it will depend on what lens you are using. The standard lens is good for shots from about 1 1/2 meters to about 20 meters for a human subject. The good news is that this is not the final answer. If you need further range, then get a much larger zoom lens. There are a wide variety of interchangeable telephoto lenses available for the Nikon D3100.
