• I use a cable that came with my Seagate USB2.0 hard-drive. As long as the mini-USB cable cant be used with smartphones as a charger, it should do the job with D3100.

• The S9100 USB cable will not fit the D3100. The S9100 uses the UC-E6 USB cable while the D3100 uses the UC-E4 USB cable. The UC-E4 has a usb mini B plug while the UC-E6 plug is proprietary.
