  • QuestionWhat is the battery life?

    Asked by Anonymous.

    • Answer Honestly it depends on the frequency of use and if you are filming vs capturing. I have had this product for over a month and charged the battery once. I tend to use it every other day for a hand full of shot (3 or 5) and battery still has not needed a recharge. If you used it all day off a fresh charge it should be able to handle tons of shots. Not to sure about video though.

  • QuestionIs this camera good for Arctic conditions? How will it operate with very bright light? Will I need to take special precautions in very low temperatures?

    Asked by adventurous.

    • Answer The D3300 should not be operated in temperatures that are above 122 °F (50 °C) or below 14 °F (–10 °C ). In addition the battery should be charged at ambient temperatures 41 °F–95 °F. The battery should not be used below 32 degrees as the performance of the battery will be reduced. As far as operating in very bright light conditions, the camera will adjust it's aperture and shutter settings to accommodate those conditions, provided you have the camera set to one of the automatic exposure modes (Program, Shutter-Priority, or Aperture-Priority Auto).

  • QuestionWhat is the difference between the D3300 and the D5300?

    Asked by Bkady.

    • Answer D3300 offers up many of the same features that the Nikon D5300 does with some differences. They both offer 5 frames per second for continuous shooting and Full HD for movies. They have the same ISO sensitivity levels and offer the same number of effective pixels. Some of the differences between the D3300 and D5300 concern the focus points, built-in GPS, additional Scene Modes, and the Vari-Angle LCD monitor that the newer D5300 offers. One thing the D3300 does have, that is not offered on the D5300, is an on-screen Guide Mode, which helps you easily navigate the camera for functions you use the most. The D3300 is also lighter in weight than the D5300, making it an easily portable camera for everyday use. • QuestionDo the 18-55mm and 55-200mm focus auto. or do they need to be focus manually? Also what is VR II Lenses, not very camera savey?

    Asked by darklady.

    • Answer Both the lenses in this kit are AF-S lenses, which means they include a built-in autofocus motor and will autofocus on the D3300. VR stands for Vibration Reduction and is Nikon's image stabilization technology. Shooting in low light often means slower shutter speeds and, as a result, image blur; VR image stabilization neutralizes camera shake, resulting in sharper shots without a tripod or the use of flash. VR also means sharper shots when using the telephoto focal lengths of your zoom lens and when shooting extreme close-ups.

  • QuestionWith both of the lenses included with this camera in this bundle would I be able to take portrait pictures with a blurred background and a focus on the person? Or would I need another lens?

    Asked by Switch.

    • Answer The soft-focus background effect that you are referring to is called 'bokeh' and is created when your image has a very shallow depth of field. The D3300's Portrait Scene Mode is designed specifically for this purpose, but you can also manually choose camera settings to create this effect. The D3300 Reference Manual covers this topic in the section on A-Aperture Priority Mode. You can also find several articles on this topic in the Learn & Explore section of Nikon USA's website. The lens that you use will play a big part in creating bokeh. The lenses in this kit are good general purpose lenses with a wide range of uses. If are serious about portrait photography you may wish to add a lens that can shoot at lower f#s, like the AF-S DX NIKKOR 35mm f/1.8G Standard lens or the Nikon - AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8G Standard lens.

  • QuestionCan I use a wireless microphone with the Nikon D3300?

    Asked by dan2080.

    • Answer The Nikon D3300 DSLR camera can use either the Nikon ME-W1 Wireless Microphone or the Nikon Stereo Microphone ME-1. The ME-W1 Wireless Microphone reaches up to 164 feet away and is powered by a AAA Alkaline or AAA Ni-MH rechargeable battery for approximately 3 hours of continuous use. The ME-1 Stereo Microphone has a low-cut filter which reduces wind noise and other low-frequency noise not blocked by the wind screen and stays connected to the camera with a 3.5 mm (diameter) stereo mini-pin jack when recording. Both the ME-W1 and the ME-1 are designed for ease of use and each provide crystal-clear, recorded audio.

  • QuestionIs it a good cameras for videos if you have the right video program?

    Asked by Drakarius.

    • Answer The D3300 is an excellent DSLR for video. It can take FULL HD video at up to 60fps. You can chose 24, 25, 30, or 50 fps if your workflow requires that. Using a DSLR for video also opens you up to wide selection of lenses that allow you to control your depth of field. This will enable you to get more professional looking video. The 18-55 will be an excellent lens to use for video, especially if your subjects are people, pets, etc...
