• Not able to play online without the membership. Luckily it's pretty cheap compared to PS Plus and Live. If you play online a lot with friends then I recommend it otherwise I personally don't see a need.

• Nintendo has an online service for $20 per year, It gives you access to online play and original Nintendo games

• At this point you need a Nintendo Online subscription to gain access to Nintendo's multiplayer online servers. You can still play the games with your friends locally, but online play is now exclusive to paid memberships.
