Although the pedals are lower than the seat, recumbent bikes do have pedals out in front, meaning the user would pedal forward at a more horizontal angle rather than up and down as in a regular exercise bike.
Do you prefer the recumbent seats over standard bike seats? The NordicTrack Commercial Studio bikes would be more vertically oriented for up and down pedaling. You can exchange the bike seat for another standard seat to fit your personal preferences.

Hello there. Although this bike does allow you to cycle backward, it would not provide resistance as you do so (as of 2021). Most of our bikes have a freewheel mechanism (clutch) that allows you to stop pedaling any time without slowing down the flywheel. This bike is one of those models, therefore, if you try pedaling backward it will not turn the flywheel that produces the resistance.
Some of our popular bikes that will engage the flywheel both forward and backward are less expensive models because they don’t have a heavy-duty flywheel as this one does. These bikes are used in spin classes. Some current examples (as of July 2021) would be the S22i or ProForm Studio Bike Pro.

This bike has bluetooth capabilities to connect to heart rate monitors and sound systems (from your device). The console can save 8 devices in its memory for bluetooth connectivity.
