It will use some ink cleaning if it's not used for a long period of time. However, if you leave the printer on all the time (so it doesn't do a cleaning cycle) the print heads may not be properly capped and the ink will dry in the heads if they're exposed to air for long periods of time. In that case, you'll need to run the head cleaning routine (possibly multiple times) which will use at least as much ink as occasional cleaning cycles will.
