• Simply put, lines of resolution. Think of an iPhone screen.... 720 would be like a standard screen, 1080 would be like a retina display. a higher density of pixels so essentially you could sit closer without starting to see the individual pixels. Not a major issue on smaller screens like this though, but as the screen gets larger and more area to cover then it can make a difference.

• The difference between the 720p and 1080 ratio is the amount of visible pixels on the display. The higher the ratio number, the crisper and clear the display due to the additional pixels visible to the eye.

• 720p means 720 horizontal lines on the screen. 1080p means 1080 horizontal lines on the screen. P means progressive scan (as opposed to interlaced scan). Large TVs need 1080p for a good picture. Smaller TVs (32 inch and less) only need 720p.
