- Answer This is the 2nd gen bulb. In my opinion it is inferior to the older ones, it can do three color tones well and some not at all.

- Answer You would not want to use them on a dimmer because the bulb itself has built in computer logic to choose color hue, temperature color and brightness. The redundancy of a dimmer would sacrifice the automation which is the point of the product.

- Answer You will nee to download the Hue app to a smart phone or tablet to change the colors. I found it a little cumbersome, but still nice to be able to change colors.

- Answer I did just as you described. I bought 4 of the color version bulbs, I already had the bridge from a previous purchase. I have all 4 color bulbs in a ceiling fan. Honestly, I rarely use the color rather just the white, they illuminate the living room very well. I use it in conjunction with the Amazon Echo and love the convenience of being able to turn on/of dim all by voice.

QuestionDoes Best Buy have the 3rd Generation BR30 Bulbs? I heard the 3rd Gen Bulbs have better color capabilities (ie. brighter and more accurate color production).

- Answer It'll fit. They're 3 3/4" wide, so it will be tigh, and it may not work with your baffle. I used A19 for my 4" recessed cans and BR30 for my 6" cans.

QuestionWhat is the difference between this SMART BR30 bulb and the BR30 Flood light (doesn't say smart on the box)--they look almost the same but maybe the bulb of the SMART has an indented ring of some sort?

- Answer They have different color tones when set to the same color. They are of a different generation, so they have temperatures. Basically, they don't put off the same color.

- Answer you will need the Hue hub. Once the bulb is connected to the hub, you can connect the Hub to Echo/Dot so you can control it using Alexa
