“It says it's a 2.0 system, but in the pictures you can see a subwoofer pre out. Can someone confirm if it works?”

Sub works great. It uses a merged signal from left and right stereo signals and not a dedicated sub signal. Thus not 2.1

Yes it does work. I run a pair of Mythos STS super towers and a super cube reference sub hooked up to the sub pre out.

Yes, it does work. Pioneer has done a great job with this receiver.

I have not tested it, but I cannot imagine the subwoofer pre-out would not work as long as your sub is powered.
