Where do I even start with this? This is honestly one of a kind receiver. What I mean with this is that all other receivers I was looked at were MASSIVE in comparison to this one right here. but size is not the only matter with this receiver, I hooked up the receiver to my gaming computer, and my switch with HDMI since neither of them support optical audio, and the DACs inside of both are honestly not the greatest of its kind. with the HDMI it outputs audio signal as digital meaning I can have louder volumes and the DAC inside of the receiver is much better than the gaming systems I have. when it comes to gaming and latency there is no input lag as far as I can perceive, however I don't know if this is the case when it comes to 4K, I game at 1080p. oh and to add on to the praise, it has 4 HDMI's to switch from and personally I use 2, but soon to be 3 after getting a Chromecast. when it comes to the smart features only one I can confirm works great is the USB input option. if you connect to the internet or Bluetooth, or airplay, or even online services like Pandora it is very slow and almost unusable in my experience. however since I do not use the receiver for that it is a solid 5/5. however I wanted to leave this up in the air for whoever wanted to get it for the smart features. one fix I found instead of breaking your head to make it work is to just get a Chromecast, may be inconvenient to some but the performance of the Chromecast compared to the integrated smart features is honestly worth it. specially since this receiver sounds and performs amazing despite not so good smart features. moving on to sound quality, the main reason I decided to go with pioneer as a receiver is because in my experience they tend to have a little more revealing sound when it comes to vocals while still having enough bass to not fatigue in long listening sessions. furthermore, the EQ is another tool I find helpful and in this receiver I find it easy to use. it has a manual and automatic. however when I used the automatic it sounded a little bit too muffled for my taste, so I manually changed it and now my speakers sound like a dream. In summary: this is a great small receiver and truly the only one of its kind by being so thin, giving 50w/channel, and 4HDMI inputs. it doesnt sound like much however after days of research this is one of the only options when it comes to having those 3 things in a receiver. the good: Sounds amazing, has enough power to drive speakers at a reasonable volume for small sets ups and/or if you plan to use it nearfield like i use with my gaming set up. and finally i cant stress enough that this is thin comapred to all other receivers. the bad: only ones i found were the smart features, but like i mentioned earlier i dont use them nor did i care when i bought it since i bought it just to connect with HDMI to my gaming systems. but the problem is easy to fix with a chromecast so not the end of the world. one thing i did find annoying though was how long it took to dowload a system update. but that was only once. so doesnt really count after having this receiver for a little over half a year. Bottom line: if you want to make your life easy, this is the only receiver that uses HDMI, is thin, and doesnt require a massive ammount of cables to do the job this does. sound quality is great, and this reciver looks great. The pictures are the set up in running with this receiver I don't use the blue ray player since I just stream Netflix. i plan to upgrade my current speakers to the KEF LS50's soon and will update review once i do.

Interface is glitchy, sounds good but a little underpowered. A good concept that is rough around the edges.

I bought this receiver as soon as I realized it existed. I did not need surround sound for my office, but still wanted HDMI switching receiver with good power and a subwoofer out. that's exactly what this thing is. The smart features of it are rubbish, though. Spotify connect doesn't work on my apartment building network but it does on all the rest of my devices, ditto for chromecast- HDMI ARC is spotty at best, but that could be the fault of my TV and not the receiver. I just used an optical cable instead. The sound though.... the sound is absolutely outstanding. I did not run the room calibration. I left everything flat and this thing sounds like it costs and weighs 4x what it does. great receiver for someone that has speakers that don't require a massive amount of power and who does not need surround. It's so good that I'm tempted to replace my cheap 5.2 receiver in my living room with a second one.

Running 2 KEF bookshelf speakers. Clean, small and looks excellent. Sounds great and love the connectivity. Replaced a discrete Rotel setup, and it sounds just as good if not better and much smaller

Purchased the unit and it is incredible. Small, lightweight and does most everything would could expect from a very high end audio unit. However, I'm a big talk radio person and I do listen to AM. So when I took the unit home and scrolled thru the features, NO AM.. Too bad for me, the unit was returned. It's a great, small. compact unit and earlier versions of a/v receivers by Pioneer had AM, so I'm surprised Pioneer took out the am feature.

I love the size and 50 watts per channel drives a nice set of speakers well. The wireless options can be a bit buggy It’s flexibility though is it’s strength, it does many things well and is ideal for a bedroom or small room setup.

This is ideal in a small to medium size rooms. When set up correctly, this has astounding sound. Has much better sound quality when tied to WiFi compared to Bluetooth streamers in the market. I just paired it to two Klipsch bookshelf speakers without subwoofers and the sound really blew me away. The highs , the mids, the bass are all surprisingly clear , full, and robust. Even the CD player when connected to SPDIF to take advantage of internal DAC seems magical. Little nuances just floats in the air. I love this Pioneer. Sad to say they have few products in the market at this time.

I tried 2 different more expensive Onkyo receivers that could not provide enough power to power my Bose bookshelf speakers, you could hardly hear it! The Pioneer Elite has no problem providing excellent power to the same speakers, and I can now turn it up and hear it all over our house!! It also has a dedicated phono port which I wanted. Very happy with my purchase.

When you don't need stereo but you want a stronger amp. More efficient or more output than a Sonos Amp that I used to power an outdoor TV with 2 speakers. Nice small profile to hide in a cabinet but still with lots of HDMI inputs.

I purchased this receiver as a component of my new stereo system. The Geek Squad had the receiver, CD changer and speakers up and running in no time and so far everything is running smoothly. No complaints here.

Best 2.0 or 2.1 option for tight space

I purchased both this, and Pioneer's cheaper 5.1 channel receiver (non-Elite branding). They were the only receivers I could find that were this super slim. This Pioneer Elite 2.1 one is FAR cooler operating. I have it in a very tight space of 4.7 inches height. It will run for hours and if I put my hand over the vents, it barely feels warm at all. You could probably even put other components on top of it. The 5.1 definitely felt hotter, so much that I would have wanted to put a USB cooling fan in the tight space if I kept it. The 5.1 unit has power going to 6 channels (all bare wire leads), which includes a powered subwoofer output (why?), despite it also having a sub pre-out (non-amplified). The Elite 2.1 receiver only powers 2 channels, and its subwoofer feed is a non-amplified pre-out. I imagine the 5.1 receiver is providing power to those other channels, regardless of whether or not you have speakers connected. That 2/3 reduction in channels being powered is surely the reason for the cooler operation. I had no interest in more than 2 channels and 1 subwoofer (which I don't have yet, and I would only get one that is self-amplified). That said, the only reason I considered the 5.1 model was for the lower price. I am fine with the slightly higher priced Elite 2.1 since this runs very cool. Same HDMI ports, same remote control, et cetera. The treble & bass adjustment knobs are a nice bonus for the Elite 2.1, though both models can change treble & bass with the remote control. The amber display also looks nicer to blend in with my wood big-screen TV bench versus the white and red coloration on the 5.1 model.
