• Installer will plug in extension wire and run it into glove box

• The USB port is on the rear of the unit. When they installed it, there's an extension that comes out under the dash to hook up the phone. So yes, it does charge. It's also necessary to use CarPlay. You can use bluetooth, but CarPlay seems to only worked when hooked up via usb.
