They charge the same price you would pay to get the first year. So far I have been able to work around that by finding a 2 year subscription in 2018 for the price of 1, and this year managed to purchase it from Best Buy for $23 for Deluxe so basicaly half price again. But yes, you have to renew every year.

The list price for a year's subscription has not gone up for years, so the most you will pay is $79.99. Often you will see a deal (or emailed a deal) where the price is lower (generally $40-$60 for an additional year). I am afraid that your 'older' version will stop allowing you to sync with your financial institutions at a certain point (usually this is three years). If you don't sync with anything online, I believe that you can continue to use an old version. This means that you have to manually keep all of your accounts up to date. I am not a fan of subscription-based software but have come to grips with the fact that for the small number of critical programs in my life, it is worth keeping the software running and available. I was previously burned by using "Microsoft Money" and "Managing Your Money."
