If I understand this correctly, the answer usually depends on how you set up the TV itself. For example, my TV has menu options that will either allow the TV internal speakers to stay on when sound is output through the optical cable connection to the Klipsch speakers, or to have the sound only output through the optical cable connection and not play through the internal TV speakers.
