  • QuestionDoes the door bell have to be pushed before it records or is it motion detected?

    Asked by Jennifer101.

    • Answer Hello Jennifer101, Good question! Motion Zones allow you to define a specific area that you want your Ring device to cover while ignoring everything outside that area. By selecting your Motion Zones to cover only areas you want the Ring device to monitor, you can effectively monitor the area you want as well as reduce the number of “false positive” motion alerts (such as cars driving by). This article will help you set up your Motion Zones and give you some tips in making them more effective: https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/360022462472-Utilizing-Motion-Detection-with-your-Ring-Battery-Devices. • QuestionI have the 2 wires I disconnected from my old doorbell. I put a voltage meter on them and got 18 volts. Will that be a safe voltage for this product and the chime Thanks so much

    Asked by Jbert1949.

    • Answer Hello! This is an excellent question, as we understand how vital it is that your doorbell is installed properly. The Ring Doorbell Battery may be hardwired to existing doorbell wires between 8-24 VAC, 40VA max, 50/60Hz. We recommend confirming the voltage requirement for your existing doorbell chime. • QuestionHow do you charge the battery? How long should battery last?

    Asked by Liz.

    • Answer Hello Liz, The Ring Video Doorbell is powered by an internal battery and can go months between recharges with normal use. When the time comes to charge your doorbell you will start by removing the security screws on the base of the doorbell, then lift the doorbell up and away from the mounting bracket. Your Ring Video Doorbell is charged using a common micro-USB cable (an orange one is included in your Ring box). The micro-USB cable can be plugged into any USB power source such as a computer. Your Ring Video Doorbell will take around five to 10 hours to fully charge. After charging the device, it should automatically reconnect to your wifi network without you having to complete a new setup. The battery measurement inside your Ring app is updated each time you press the front button on your Ring Video Doorbell. Give your device a couple of test rings and the app should update. • QuestionBought this as a gift and was told they couldn't mount it because it has to be mounted on a flat surface. Their previous doorbell facing isn't flat. Is there a way to get around this?

    Asked by mounting.

    • Answer Hello mounting, If your house has siding, you'll need to take the angle of the siding into account when mounting your Ring Video Doorbell. If you're installing a Ring Video Doorbell on a house with aluminum siding or on a house where the door is at the top of a set of stairs you can use a wedge kit to properly position the device. This will help catch visitor motion, but minimize "false positive" motion alerts, such as cars on the street. Both of these situations require the use of a wedge kit to properly angle your Ring Video Doorbell to catch the motions you want while avoiding the motions you don't. This article will briefly explain how your Ring Video Doorbell sees the world and how to use your wedge kit: https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/115002582206-Using-a-Wedge-Kit-to-Properly-Position-your-Ring-Video-Doorbell. • QuestionDo I need a SIM card with this

    Asked by Jan.

    • Answer Hello Jan, No, Ring devices do not have an external storage option, such as a SIM card. We provide you the option of video storage for the recorded doorbell events so that you may revisit these videos for 60 days (in the US). The optional Ring Protect Plan is only meant to store the video recordings to the cloud, but does not impact the functionality of your Ring Doorbell 2 device. You should still be able to view live videos and answer doorbell ding notifications as they occur in real-time. You can view more information on our Protect Plans here: https://shop.ring.com/pages/protect-plans. • QuestionIs the camera adjustable on the doorbell itself? If ring doorbell is mounted on a side wall, not directly looking to street, will the camera only show when someone is directly in front of the door?

    Asked by Ginger.

    • Answer Hello Ginger, If you're installing a Ring Doorbell on a house with aluminum siding or in a house where the door is atop a set of stairs you can use a wedge kit to properly position the Ring Video Doorbell to catch visitor motion but minimize "false positive" motion alerts. There is also a corner kit for your Ring Video Doorbell (2020 release) which allows you to adjust your viewing angle by 15, 30 or 45 degrees.
