This is exactly how I have it set up and it works fine. When I mounted my 65" smart tv on the wall, I ran an extra HDMI cable just in case I added devices, so I hooked this roku to that cable and it works fine. I have the ROKU unit concealed behind an electric fireplace mantle, and the remote works fine without having line of sight to the receiver (even though there's a misleading sticker on the unit which indicates you need to point it at the device). Just to be clear, I have the Roku Express 4k+ 2021. Good luck.
