Yes it would be separate from tv apps. It will be on its own HDMI connection. So, you’d end up having two remotes. One to control the tv (i.e. turn the tv off and on, and raise or lower volume). With the second being used to control the Roku.

In order to stream Spectrum cable to any TV, you only need a TV that has a HDMI port to plug the Roku into (not required to be a Smart TV). You will need to download the Spectrum App to your Roku and during setting it up, it will detect if the Roku is on the same WiFi Network provided by Spectrum & it will work similar to the cable box allowing you to view based on your cable package.
