You can see local channels only if the streaming service you're connected to offers local channels. For example, if you use the DirecTV app to access their streaming service, then you will be able to see local channels. This device is not like a TV antenna that receives over the air signals.

Most major cities are covered by ADC, NBC, or Fox, which you can download their respective apps or watch several free live TV channels on the Roku Channel.
