• It can be vented back into the room. It doesn't have to be vented outside.

• Thanks for the question. The SMH1622W does need to be vented, but it does not have to be vented outside. Like other Samsung microwaves, this model can be set up to recirculate filtered air into the room through vents located in the front that are concealed from view. For those wishing to exhaust outside, it can be vented from the rear or top of the unit. - Ms. Samsung
