Thanks for your interest. The SMH1816S is designed to be installed under a standard 12-13" cabinet. Installing it under a 15" cabinet in the traditional manner would obstruct the hidden exhaust vent on the top front of the unit, so would not be recommended. The back of the microwave needs to be supported by the mounting bracket which enables the microwave to be flush with the rear wall. I would suggest consulting a kitchen designer or carpenter to determine whether an alternative surface can be installed behind the microwave that would provide enough support for the mounting bracket, and therefore the microwave itself. - Ms. Samsung
