It has a button to add 30sec. each time it is pressed, but you still have to push the start button after, unless it's already cooking. It also has buttons for certain foods, like reheat dinner plate, or pizza etc... I personally do not find these features very useful or user friendly.

Your particular example, "press 1 for 1 minute", is not one of the options, but the list of shortcuts does include Popcorn, Potato, Veggies, Pizza, Kids Meals, Snacks, Soften/Melt, 1 Pound and Auto Defrost, and +30 seconds.
