“How can you connect the venting duct for back venting? The cutout template specify a 4 x 12 opening in the wall but the adaptor is for a 3 1/4 x 10 duct. Since there is no access to the adaptor when you install the microwave up the wall, how can you fit the adaptor inside the wall duct? Note that all the available outside wall outlet are riveted units that can't be dismantled so the duct has to be in place prior to flipping the microwave on the wall. How do you make that connection? The instructions only describe the opening and not how to make the connection contrary to a vertical venting situation where the instructions are pretty straightforward. Thanks”

Thanks for your question. If you're planning to install an external vent that connects to the back of the microwave, you'll need to have access to that connection through the wall to the back of the microwave where the connection is located. This is usually done when the house is first constructed or during a significant renovation. The reason the installation guide includes instructions for sealing the connection to a top-vented microwave is that the cabinet provides the access needed to that area after the microwave is in place. - Ms. Samsung
