• Makes for an airtight closure - You don't want the door to pop open - It is not at all hard to close...

• I think this is a built-in feature. It gets you into the habit of consciously closing the door, thus preventing you from letting the door shut on its own, but not quite closing (especially after it gets older), and preventing you from wasting electricity. I like the feature.
