Cookware for induction cooking must contain some iron or steel to create a magnetic field with the cooktop. This is how the cookware is heated. Most induction ready cookware is so listed on its packaging or on the site where it is sold. Some nonstick cookware, although mostly made of non-ferrous materials, will have a ferrous bottom element added to make it work with induction cooking.
