A:Answer Hi JanetC, A subwoofer is a loudspeaker designed to reproduce low-pitched audio frequencies known as bass and sub-bass, lower in frequency than those which can be (optimally) generated by a woofer. Dolby Atmos expands on existing surround sound systems by adding height channels, allowing sounds to be interpreted as three-dimensional objects. Subwoofers are by design non-directional, while Dolby Atmos is by design directional spatial audio. They are not incompatible, they actually work very well together, though the subwoofer does not output Dolby Atmos sound independently. Great Question! ^Scott
