A:Answer The base looks plastic, but has a metal under skin. Without measuring mine (downstairs), I'd say it's about 18" x 10" square and flat, nothing like the 4-legged stand the shipped with my 51" plasma. I find it to be unobstrusive, but a little difficult to dust (the distance between to bottom of the set and the table top is not that great).
But the base is very solid!
