No, I don't think it would look better up-scaled. Up close the 1080P TV will probably look better because the 2160P TV is having to add pixels that don't exist. My Time Warner DTA box at 1080P looks pretty bad when up close on this TV. From our normal viewing distance of 14' it isn't a problem. Up-scaled Blu-rays look sharper to me, probably because they are compressed less than the cable signals. Check my full review of the picture problems I am having with this TV before you buy it.
