I don't know about external booting with USB 3 but I did want to let you know that I had purchased the OWC internal SSD DIY kit and it was quite simple to open and add the SSD. The only thing that didn't come off so great is I have problems putting CDs into the drive now. But that might be because I did not get the case back on quite right and I have not opened it back up to try again.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes you can, but installing it internal would be the better option
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I don't even know if it would use USB as a primary boot source for an OS. If it did then you could do that but I would not recommend it. If the drive gets knocked off of something our dropped with it is running it could corrupt the whole OS. I would just get a professional to install the new drive and install/image the MAC OS on it. Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Macs do fine booting up from an external. It will work but I recommend you get it installed internally for a more stable setup.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I don't have a Mac, but from first principles this seems ok technically. However, you should be aware that you could have data loss, corruption, etc if someone were to accidentally unplug the drive while the Mac was running...
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.
