- Answer Technically, it's both. It's a SATA drive, not an IDE. It will fit in any laptop or desktop built since 2006.

- Answer YES YES YES! I have this in my mid 2012 MBP typing this answer right now. It works awesome. I definitely don't regret it at all! I'll add a photo from the black magic disk speed test app available on the mac app store. It's for the SSD currently in my comp and after about 3 months of normal usage. Boot time is 10s or less. Shuts off almost instantly. Apps are open before they have a chance to bounce on the dock. That's including things like photoshop, word, etc. All work incredibly fast. My best advice is to get this and use carbon copy cloner to clone your current HD (or do a fresh install...its up to you)... search google for a mac app called "Trim Enabler" and get the premium version. This will allow you to turn off the sudden shock sensor since you don't have a spin drive anymore as well as some other nifty features.

- Answer It does not come with the 3.5" adapters or SATA cables. However they are not expensive, you can get both for about $10 at various stores online.

- Answer Yes, won't get much speed bump. I would suggest get a 1 tb hybrid hdd. Slight increase in speed for the money.

- Answer It is Sata III 6Gb/s so you get 540MB/s sequential read and 520MB/s sequential write speeds. But probably in real world is a bit slower.

QuestionI bought this since August 27th, installed it 2 weeks ago and it works for a week, after that it stops responding so I bring my laptop to diagnose, they say the ssd has defects inside that can not use anymore. Can I bring it in to repair with no cost?

- Answer Yes, it will work. Piece of cake with the Samsung software included. You will need to buy a SATAIII to USB cable and you are done (or borrow one). The cloning will take anywhere from 1 to 2 hours, depending on the USB port, hard drive speed, etc. Watch Youtube video on opening the hard drive.

- Answer I don't know about external booting with USB 3 but I did want to let you know that I had purchased the OWC internal SSD DIY kit and it was quite simple to open and add the SSD. The only thing that didn't come off so great is I have problems putting CDs into the drive now. But that might be because I did not get the case back on quite right and I have not opened it back up to try again.

- Answer The standard retail packaging does not come with cable and caddy, but if your laptop currently has a 2.5 in hard drive installed, you should be able to use the existing caddy. If it doesn't, you'll have to look up how to find the caddy separately. Cloning the drive should retain the Windows version.

QuestionCan this be installed as a 2nd hard drive to increase speed of laptop?

- Answer First of all most laptops do not hold more than one hard drive. Second it would only speed up what was running from that SSD. So if your operating system was running on the old HDD and you were just using the second (SSD) for storage or small programs you would not see much speed increase at all. My suggestion is to reinstall / image Windows onto the new SSD and use it as the primary. Use an external hard drive for storage or if you can install 2 hard drives in your laptop then use the HDD for storage. Regards, Valsar.

- Answer I'm not sure about your question but I'll give it a try...it does come with Samsung Magician and Data Migration (which works only you are transferring your old drive to a new Samsung ssd)...but it will only copy from a functioning hard drive (I think). You might have to try one of the partition programs which claim to be able to rescue data that has been erased and/or damaged). They have never worked for me so try out the freeware titles before spending your money on anything.

- Answer The migration software and Samsung Magician software is included so no worries there. You will need to get a USB to SATA Adapter cable for the cloning process. Those run about 10 dollars.
