The Samsung 970 EVO will work with the Dell XPS 8900, and it will still be faster than a SATA based drive, but it will not run at full speed. The Dell XPS 8900 does have an NVME M.2 slot. However, according to the spec, it's only got an x1 PCI-e 3.0 lane. Newer motherboards have 4 PCI-e lanes, and the drive is designed to take advantage of the faster throughput. The motherboard in the Dell XPS8900 will only be able to talk to the drive at the maximum speed of one lane, 985 MB/s, so you won't get the full speeds advertised for the drive. However, it will still be faster than the max speed of a SATA port, 600MB/s. Bottom line, get it, you'll be happy with it, but go in knowing that you won't get the speeds Samsung advertises while you're using it in the 8900.
