“Do the display numbers on the outside just show estimated time when starting a load or do they count down time until completion throughout the load?”

They count down until the load is completed......

The timer actually counts down. There are also arrows that will indicate where in the cleaning the machine is.

It does a countdown throughout the cycle.

The display numbers on the outside indicate the amount of time remaining in the cycle. Additionally there are arrows that light up as well that indicate the start of a cycle the middle and the end which is important because the unit is so quiet
