1 year parts and labor warranty covers manufacturer defects only, so don't drop it. Here is a Best Buy tip: if it is still within the return period, go back to the store with your receipt and purchase the Performance Service Plan. Theoretically you can return the phone and just rebuy it with a Service Plan right? They should be able to do a "paper return." If customer service doesn't understand, get a manager, I'm sure they would love to sell you a Service Plan. The reason they normally wouldn't is that a person could mess up a phone and try to buy a warranty afterwards, but if you show them the phone is still good and still within the return period it should work. Your carrier usually offers some sort of extended insurance/warranty as well.

It doesn't cover accidental damages to your device, but if it is defective, they send you a REFURBISHED one to replace it. The battery is NOT covered under either plan.

It is a monthly cost, usually $9.99 a month on iPhones it is $14.99, deducted from your credit card account, that covers everything except full water submersion and it being lost or stolen. That means even if you break the phone we will fix it or replace it for free with no deductible. This can only be added in store up to 30 days after the phone is purchased from Best Buy. Even if you were to have gotten a free phone when you signed your contract, it will cost you almost $300 to replace it.
