Both! There's a preference if you'd like the screen to wake at a flick of the wrist, or just tapping on the screen twice like you may already do with your phone. I would say any Android phone works just fine with this watch, but definitely if you have a Galaxy, it works perfectly. Other android phones may have connection issues like random drop disconnections, connection reach issues, or if plan on using Samsung apps like Samsung Pay, or Samsung Health, the app that tracks all exercise activity.

You can also change these wake-up settings to fit your preferences. However, if certain silent modes are turned on, such as Goodnight mode, the screen may not wake up when you raise your wrist.
