If you don't have the LTE one then no you will have to have your phone. But- not like it has to be in your pocket I would guess maybe around20-30 Yards . Now don't hold meto that- it's just a rough guess like my phone can be upstairs and i will still get Calls on watch, Well I hope this helps But I will tell you I love this watch

You just need to make sure the watch is connected to your phone through Bluetooth or through a mobile network. With a LTE watch model you can even handle calls remotely. ^Elizabeth
