We didn't want the watch to have its own data plan and just wanted to use it Bluetooth connected to the phone. We were told by the Best Buy salesman, "this is absolutely doable, and if we should ever want to get the watch its own data plan, all it took was a phone call to our carrier to activate the eSIM built into the watch." There appears to be only one model of this watch and it can be used with its own data plan (SIM card) or tethered via Bluetooth.
