“What's the difference in this and the one that says unlocked - other than price? It seems like if you don't need the optional plan either would work.”

• This one doesn't have the LTE radio in it. So it cannot be used standalone on a cell network.

• The unlocked version would be an LTE version. While it doesn't have to be activated with a carrier to function, you would pay more for the feature AND have to pay a monthly fee to utilize the LTE feature. This one only connects directly to your phone via bluetooth.
