Works with Alexa but you need the hub.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Great question, John! The SmartThings Motion Sensor is designed to work with the SmartThings Hub. Once the Motion Sensor has been connected to the SmartThings Hub, you can integrate SmartThings with Alexa following the instructions found on our Support page here -- https://support.smartthings.com/hc/en-us/articles/205275404. Thank you! ~Samsung Brand Ambassador

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. You need a SmartThings Hub, but the benefit of having it is that you can set up actual automations in your home between Alexa and any of the SmartThings products. Plus you an tether any device that works on the SmartThings platform to work with Alexa. For example, I have regular LED strips running underneathy cabinet that's plugged into a Wemo smart plug. When motion is detected using this device between 9pm and 5am, it will turn on the light strip. If motion is detected during the hours I'm away, I have the automation set to send me a text message and an alert so I can look at my cameras and decide if I need to contact authorities or not. You need to ask yourself what you want from a smart home. I'll be happy you answer anything else you have.
