As long as your Internet service comes from the outside into a router and then to the computer. That way the Internet goes to the router first and is not reliant on the computer for connection or power. If the Internet connection goes directly to your computer, it would require the computer to be plugged in and powered up. For a quality flow of streaming video, make sure you have DSL, cable modem, or T1 for your Internet service. Also helps if your router is running 802.11n. This is standard in all the newer models less than a year or so old. The previous versions of the wireless protocol were 802.11 a/b and g.
