“I'm still confused if these rear speakers provide true channeled surround sound? It would seem the soundbar needs a built-in decoder. Can someone answer, if this is true 5.1 or just two rear speakers replicating the soundbar channels.”

The surround sound is equal to any surround sound I have heard from more expensive speakers. I love it!
