You will probably need an adapter to fit the hard drive because the connection ends are different if you have an old computer, but functionality should be OK.

Take your computer system information ( Manufacturer/ Model ) to Best Buy Geek Squad or ask a reputable local PC shop for free advise. They should not charge a fee for asking a simple question. All places can Browse the Internet to find what is compliant to your system. Also I would say your current computer cannot use any Harddrive larger than 250GB by what you have given.
