• If your Dell is only a few years old the Seagate 1TB SATA Hard drive should work. If the Dell is 7 years or older then the connection likely could be PATA.

• Not sure what Jacob is talking about with regards to NOT being able to install WinXP with SP2 or lower. YES YOU CAN either install Windows XP, SP1 or SP2 and then use Windows update to upgrade to SP3. Installing an OS has NOTHING to do with what hard drive you have on your desktop.

• Yes, it will work with your computer (I have a Dimension 3000 and a Dimension 4600, and have researched the entire line.) However, you will not be able to perform a clean install of Windows XP SP2 or lower; You will have to either use Windows XP SP3+ or just use a different OS (Like Linux.)

• Our Barancuda drive model ST310005N1A1AS-RK will work with systems that support the SATA 3Gb/s interface. While most current Desktop computers support this specification, it would be best to check with Dell first to verify that your specific computer will support it.
