• A:Answer No, it is not SSD. SSD drives are better but more expensive. I've not had a problem with this or any of my Seagate portable external hard drives, and I carry one with me. Just keep it protected as much as possible.

Q: QuestionCan I transfer data from MAC (OS) to PC (Window 7 pro) and visa versa? In another word, will this drive work with both MAC and PC without any extra work like formatting or special downloads?

• A:Answer The drive is formatted as NTFS out of the box, so you can read and write with Windows but only read on a Mac (without special drivers). Maybe that is all you need, but if you need to write to it from a Mac, you will want to get some software for the Mac, or reformat the drive as exFAT. The latter is my preference since it works pretty much everywhere and it take a couple minutes to do. Most all my flash and portable drives are formatted as exFAT for that reason.

• A:Answer Yes. You can either manually move the drive from machine to machine and run Time Machine (or another solution) to back them up. You could also share it out from on of the desktop Macs to allow the others to backup over the network. But it is definitely doable.
