Yes to both. We use 5 outside and all are battery operated. No wires. Just have to be careful of the distance so there is a wi-fi connection

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.The Pro 2 camera can be operated outside via WiFi and by rechargeable battery or connected to a power source. Battery allows you to locate them where there is no external power source. You do lose a feature or two without continual power in order to reduce battery usage. Can also be connected to solar panel of here is no outside power source but you want to addd back those features and/or conserve battery charge. I’ve had mine outside for about a week with lots of activity and they’re still 50% plus charges.

Suggest mounting the camera where one can easily access it maybe by a step-ladder... like under the eave of the house. The battery will need recharging every 3 - 4 months depending on how many times it is activated to record movement. The Arlo app works great and will show when the battery is getting low and in need of recharging. Having a rechargeable battery makes installation easy without running power/video cables and also makes the Arlo camera moveable in case one moves or needs to relocate the camera.
