Here are our recommendations: 18 gauge - For distances up to 100 feet 16 gauge - For distances up to 150 feet 14 gauge - For distances up to 250 feet As a best practice, we recommend 14/4 direct-burial speaker wire be used.   • QuestionInstallation question…If using 14/4 speaker wire, do I pull the wire to the furthest speaker location and leave the wire attached to the spool at that location or do I leave the wire attached to the spool by the amp? The instructions are confusing.

When using 14/4 direct-burial speaker wire, we recommend pulling the wire from the amplifier to the furthest speaker location, but leave the wire attached to the spool. This gives you flexibility during installation, allowing you to create wire loops and make speaker connections as you work your way back toward the amplifier.
