• There is a bracket that can be purchased for mounting the bar nearly anywhere. The sound will change based on the environment the speaker is in. if it is close to a wall or surface, this may introduce a sound reflection. If that is a good or a bad thing depends on the room and the listener.

• Sure, you could mount it above, and I doubt you'd notice much difference, if any. The Sonos system does a sound check of the room, including where you place your speakers, for optimum perfirmance.
