“Have had this soundbar a couple of months and just noticed it gets very hot on the bottom side. So hot you can't hardly touch it. This can't be normal can it?”

Yes, it is normal, especially when playing sound at high volumes or for long periods of time. The owner's manual cautions you to not touch the bottom/back of it after or during operation. Additionally it cautions you to keep sufficient airflow behind/under the soundbar itself to help it keep from overheating. But to answer your question, that is normal; no worries!
