“Thanks Kate but what I am asking is how do I connect the tv to an AV receiver and the sound bar? Sometimes the sound bar is enough but other times I want the full surround system connected to netflix or Amazon? If using AV receiver I want the bar off”

• Hi Edon, we recommend connecting both sound devices to your television. The best option will be connecting the receiver with the HDMI cable so you can get picture and sound, and the sound bar with optical cable. This way you will be able to turn on or off the sound device you prefer. -Kate

• I ended up calling Sony and Kate's answer is correct about adding the optical cable but you have to unplug the TV and plug it back up and then the tv recognizes the optical cable.
