The second remote has a microphone for Voice Commands. You can use either or both remotes to operate the TV.

You need to use one of the TVs remotes to set that up in the configurations though.you can even use the remote from the TV to work with your cable box. The small wire that looks like ear buds is for that. Just plug to hdmi then put the ear buds near where the cable box remote receiver is and voila!
