I purchased the Sony 5000 soundbar and subwoofer combo. Found the Surface Area audio+ sounds much better than the soundbar, (Soundbar + Sony subwoofer was better for bass though). So I returned the soundbar and subwoofer. I found I could buy a TOSLINK (optical) to Stereo RCA adapter and plug into an old powered sub-woofer laying around and it actually sounded pretty good. It took a full afternoon listening to different sources twiddling with the roll over and volume controls on the sub-woofer where I got bass punch I was looking for. You can't drive it too hard as it will be boomy, and also optical lags the TV audio slightly, so had to ensure any dialog or other timing sensitive audio was eliminated. So I have the bass emphasis in movie explosions and other sound I was looking for. I'm pretty happy with it now.
