• Yes, you must have Wi-Fi to stream and use the apps, but if you want to play a disc all you need are; the disk, an HDTV and to have paid your electric bill :P

• Hi there, updating the player's software requires network connection. However, you can update the player by downloading and transferring the Update File from a PC to Your USB storage device. Disc playback does not require network connection. - Jerome

• The unit will playback just fine without the wifi being enabled. However, you will not be able to use the built in apps like Netflix, Hulu, etc. and obviously you will not be able to get any updates. But for simply a stand alone BluRay player you will be in business.
